Braunwald’s Heart Disease, Single Volume: A Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine 12th Edition

Brigham Editor-in-Chief: Peter Libby, MD, of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine

With Libby serving as its editor-in-chief, “Braunwald’s Heart Disease: A Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine, 12th Edition,” features two Brigham editors and numerous Brigham authors. Through its editions, “Braunwald’s Heart Disease” has acted as a trusted reference for medical practitioners and trainees and is a leading source of reliable cardiology information. This most recent iteration contains 14 new chapters covering topics such as artificial intelligence in cardiovascular medicine; influenza, pandemics, COVID-19, and cardiovascular disease; and the impact of the environment on cardiovascular health. It also covers cutting-edge topics such as proteomics and metabolomics, transcatheter aortic valve replacement, diabetocardiology, and cardio-oncology.

Libby is perennially named a top cardiologist and his broad field of study includes vascular biology, atherosclerosis and preventative cardiology. He directs a research lab studying the messengers created by the body that may produce arterial plaque and blockages, as well as normal and abnormal function of smooth muscle and endothelial cells. He has received research recognitions on four continents, including the highest research awards from the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology, the Gold Medal of the European Society of Cardiology, the Anitschkow award from the European Atherosclerosis Society, The Ernst Jung Gold Medal for Medicine and the Earl Benditt award for vascular biology.
