Since 2015, people around the world have celebrated the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on Feb. 11. The United Nations describes the day as a powerful advocacy tool to help raise awareness about access and participation in science and the importance of gender equality and empowerment of women and girls. Many Brigham clinicians and researchers added their voices to the conversation on Twitter, both in celebration of the day but also in celebration of women in science in general. Below are some of their tweets:

Anna Greka, MD, PhD, director of the Glom-NExT Center for Glomerular Kidney Disease and Novel Experimental Therapeutics in the Renal Division, took a moment to reflect on one of her science role models: Marie Curie.

Peter Chai, MD, an emergency medicine physician, gave kudos to research assistant Maria Jose Bustamante.

Heather Burrell Ward, MD, a resident in Psychiatry, shared a message about her work and her enthusiasm for women in both science and medicine.

Craig Hersh, MD, a physician in Pulmonary and Critical Care, celebrated his colleagues.

From our @BrighamResearch account, we shared some historical and modern photos of women in Brigham science.

Jennifer Manne-Goehler, MD, PhD, of the Division of Infectious Diseases, gave a shout out to her co-authors on a recent paper about diabetes prevalence in low- and middle-income countries.

The Brigham’s Department of Anesthesiology has kept the celebration going, recognizing recent honors bestowed on Linda Aglio, MD, MS, and Kristin Schreiber, MD, PhD.

You can keep the celebration going too. Add your voice to the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #womeninscience or add a comment below.
