Name Updates for Two Emergency Airway Teams as Part of Transition to Plain Language Codes
As part of our process of transitioning to plain language codes, the Emergency Response Committee has modified the code names of the Emergency Airway Teams as follows:

  • Anesthesia Airway Team is called for urgent or emergent respiratory compromise or respiratory arrest, replacing SART (Stat Anesthesia Respiratory Team).
  • Surgical Emergency Airway Team is called for patients who may require an emergency surgical airway, replacing the Emergency Surgical Airway Team. Only the anesthesia attending, senior anesthesia resident, ICU attending or emergency medicine attending present at the bedside should initiate this code.

Please note, no abbreviations will be used for these teams moving forward. The new policy, which can be found here, went live on Feb. 1, 2019.
