Dipanjan Chowdhury

Chowdhury Appointed Chief of the Division of Radiation and Cancer Biology at Dana-Farber

Dipanjan Chowdhury, PhD, has been appointed chief of the Division of Radiation and Cancer Biology in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Dana-Farber. Chowdhury will be collaborating with BWH’s Radiation Oncology Department in the near future.

Chowdhury is an associate professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, a member of the Division of DNA Repair and Genomic Stability in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and associate member of the Broad Institute of Harvard & MIT. He is also an affiliate faculty member of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology and the Department of Immunology at Harvard Medical School.

Chowdhury’s research focuses on deciphering cellular response to DNA damage, particularly DNA double strand breaks, with the goals of generating strategies for personalized radio and chemotherapy, and countering accidental radiation exposure. His studies were the first to show that microRNAs can functionally impact the efficacy of DNA repair in tumor cells, and influence specific DNA repair pathways.  His laboratory investigates fundamental questions which have recently led to the discovery of an uncharacterized RNA binding protein that profoundly impacts DNA repair. On the translation research side, the Chowdhury laboratory has developed a platform to use serum microRNAs as non-invasive biomarkers for various pathological conditions.
