In the Center for Experimental Therapeutics and Reperfusion Injury (CETRI), lead scientist and Director Charles N. Serhan, PhD, DSc, and colleagues pursue innovative research to better understand how the human body controls inflammation and, they hope, ultimately improve the lives of patients at BWH for generations to come.

“While the inflammatory response is a primordial protective response that helps us defend from microbial invasion, when in excess or uncontrolled, inflammation is associated with many widely occurring diseases,” said Serhan, of the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine.
