Shelly Anderson
Anderson Named Senior Vice President for BWHC Strategy and Operations
Shelly Anderson, MPM, has been named senior vice president for BWHC Strategy and Operations, as of last month.
This role extends Anderson’s current responsibilities to include collaborating with other BWHC leaders to design and execute strategic initiatives and leading BWH’s Active Asset Management program. Anderson will also work to innovate best practices and facilitate the accountability needed for a leading academic medical center to thrive.
Anderson joined BWH in 2011. She successfully collaborated across Partners and BWHC to implement Partners eCare, guiding BWHC through the move to a system that delivers coordinated, seamless care across the entire Partners network. She has also been instrumental in developing and executing the hospital’s strategy, most recently by prioritizing care redesign and Active Asset Management initiatives.
Faxon Becomes Associate Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine

David Faxon
David Faxon, MD, clinical director of Ambulatory Cardiovascular Services, was named associate chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine in December. As the division’s efforts in innovation and research expand, Faxon will assume day-to-day responsibility for all Cardiovascular Medicine clinical activities. He will lead ongoing efforts in the redesign of all inpatient and outpatient cardiology services.
Faxon has held several leadership roles at BWH, including vice chair of Medicine for Integrated Clinical Services, director of Strategic Planning for the Department of Medicine and cardiology physician lead for Partners eCare. He was the prior chief of Cardiology at the University of Southern California, the University of Chicago and at the West Roxbury VA Hospital, as well as a past president of the American Heart Association.
In his 40 years as a practicing cardiologist, Faxon has dedicated himself to translational and clinical research, public education and policy, patient care and teaching. He earned his BA from Hamilton College and his MD from Boston University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Dartmouth Medical Center and his cardiology fellowship at the University Hospital in Boston.

Julie Celano
Celano Resigns as HR VP, Williams to Serve in Interim Role
Julie Celano resigned from her role as vice president of Human Resources for BWH and BWFH. Her last day at the Brigham was Dec. 30.
After joining BWH nearly five years ago, Celano devoted herself to enhancing the experience of employees at the Brigham, helping employees and volunteers gain opportunities for professional and personal growth. A collaborative and thoughtful leader, Celano always listened to everyone’s perspective, asking questions and engaging people in coming together to develop solutions.
Sabrina Williams, MBA, has been appointed interim vice president of BWHC Human Resources. Williams joins BWHC from Neighborhood Health Plan (NHP), where she was vice president of Human Resources.

An experienced HR leader within the Partners family, Williams brings extensive HR knowledge and experience, combined with leadership skills and talent in the strategic areas that will be BWHC’s major focus this year: programs in recruitment and retention, change management, diversity and inclusion, and workforce development.
Williams has more than 15 years of experience as an HR executive and leader. Prior to joining NHP, she served as the director of Human Resources for the Health Science Campuses at Tufts University. She has also held leadership roles at nonprofit organizations including the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts, South End Settlements and the Roxbury Community College Foundation.
Williams received her bachelor’s in Sociology and Economics from Brandeis University and her MBA from Simmons College School of Management.
Fernandez to Become President, CEO of Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Milton

Rich Fernandez
Rich Fernandez, MBA, senior vice president of Ambulatory Services, is leaving the Brigham to become president and CEO of Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Milton. His last day at BWH is Jan. 13.
Fernandez joined BWH in May 2015 to oversee Ambulatory Services, with a keen focus on patient access, care redesign and patient affordability as part of the hospital’s institutional strategy. He directed all ambulatory services and supported the departments of Dermatology, Medicine, Psychiatry and Neurology and oversaw the Neurosciences and Lung Center service lines. He also played a key leadership role in the opening of the Building for Transformative Medicine last fall, with its state-of-the-art outpatient clinical care, advanced imaging and research space.
Linder to Join Feinberg School of Medicine

Jeffrey Linder
Jeffrey A. Linder, MD, MPH, FACP, will be leaving BWH to join the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine as chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics, effective March 1. Linder currently serves as director of the BWH Primary Care Practice Based Research Network and is a physician at the Phyllis Jen Center for Primary Care.
Linder also serves at the national level on the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Healthcare Safety and Quality Study Section and has been a key member of the working group on Improving Antibiotic Prescribing in the Outpatient Setting convened by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Pew Charitable Trusts.
