Richard S. Blumberg, MD, was named a top 20 translational researcher according to Nature Biotechnology.

Richard S. Blumberg, MD, chief of the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy, was named among the top 10 translational researchers, according to data presented by Nature Biotechnology. The journal had collated approximately 200 papers published either online or in print during 2012 that had been highlighted in SciBX, a publication that scans the top 50 research journals for papers of particular translational interest each week. Researchers were ranked according to total patents at their current institutional affiliation. Blumberg had 19 patents total, with the top 20 researcher patent totals ranging from 9 to 114. Dennis Kasper, MD, formerly of BWH, was also named a top translational researcher.

According to Nature Biotechnology, boutique patent analytics firm IP Checkups provided a listing of patents associated with the corresponding authors and affiliation of these papers, which was then used to provide a ranking of professors and assistant or associate professors.

Also, BWH made the list for top institutions (out of a total of 102 research centers) for number of research papers highlighted in 2012 by SciBX. BWH was one of the top 10 institutions to publish the greatest proportion (four or more) of papers selected to be highlighted by SciBX.
