From patients’ bedsides and research laboratories to lecture halls and international health clinics, BWH staff strive to achieve life-giving breakthroughs each and every day.

Last month, the hospital launched an ambitious $1 billion fundraising campaign—the largest in BWH history—with the theme, “Life. Giving. Breakthroughs.”

“These three words evoke what we are all about,” said BWH President Betsy Nabel, MD. “Our mission centers around life—discovering new treatments for disease and improving the quality of life for our patients and their families, locally and globally. We have a long-standing history of transforming the future, and we intend to build upon this remarkable foundation. To enable all that we envision, we’re embarking on an important journey focused on ‘giving’ that will allow us to achieve even greater heights of excellence.”

The funds BWH raises through the campaign will enable the hospital to advance health care by:

  • Accelerating cures in areas such as the neurosciences, where BWH is launching the world’s first preventive clinical trial for a potential treatment for Alzheimer’s;
  • Transforming patient care in areas such as cancer, where treatments will become more personalized and precise as BWH researchers map mutations that have never before been recorded;
  • Investing in capital projects, like the Brigham Building for the Future, where collaboration between clinicians and scientists will truly transform medicine, and the Newborn Intensive Care Unit, where BWH cares for its most vulnerable patients; and
  • Educating and inspiring the next generation of medical leaders, who will perpetuate life-giving breakthroughs for generations to come.
